Sod Turning marks the beginning of long-awaited neighbourhood centre.

Calderwood Village works have commenced this week, Monday 22nd January, after the turning of the sod ceremony held on Wednesday 18th January, 2024 at the Calderwood Village site.

Speakers on the day were Cr Kellie Marsh (Shellharbour City Council Deputy Mayor) and Anthony El-Hazouri (Founder Director, Revelop) supported by Charbel Hazzouri (Founder Director, Revelop, Emily Han (Head of Development) and Daniel Dinte (Head of Property). Key stakeholders in attendance were Brad Karge, Woolworths Group along with future tenants of the shopping centre, Steve Blaxland, BN Group Architects and Quasar Constructions. The invitation to attend was open to the public and the turnout resulted in an extensive audience from the Calderwood community to witness this significant milestone.

“There’s a whole team that comes behind these projects which gets them to where they are today.”

“It’s been a number of years and a lot of hard work, consulting with stakeholders, DA approvals and we’ve gotten to the point now, which is an exciting landmark to have the sod turning today. A lot of hard work goes into the process, on the outside things take time (which) I’m sure the community have been waiting for”

“It started with a much smaller concept early on in the process, but as things progressed, we realised that this area is growing quite rapidly and the needs of this area will grow quite rapidly. What was going to be a smaller supermarket will now be a full-scale large format Woolworths with BWS attached. Woolworths Group are extremely committed to this location and excited to be breaking ground on this area as well.”

Anthony El-Hazouri, Founder Director, Revelop

The development approved in the last quarter of 2023, will be circa $50m located in the Lendlease $380m master-planned community village in the Illawarra region.

Calderwood Village will be anchored by full-line Woolworths and BWS, along with Priceline Pharmacy and Young Academics. Newly announced tenants will include Anytime Fitness, Allan’s Barber and Donut Jam amongst the mix of 30 specialty retailers, al fresco dining, allied health and medical centre, veterinary clinic and swim school.

Calderwood Village will span a land size of 18,500m2 and NLA (Net Lettable Area) of 10,000m2 with primary trade currently exceeding 12,000 residents projected to grow to 25,000 over the next 5 years.

“Many of us have been waiting for (this), in the Calderwood and the broader Shellharbour community. Residents will now have the opportunity to experience a new frontier in retail shopping right in our backyard”

“Many of us know how difficult it has been for us locally, with not being able to access medical centres or doctors - with a lot of young families in the area and retirees it has been quite difficult, but with a new medical centre it will provide us with the opportunity to receive high quality health care in a locally brand new all-purpose built facility.”

“It’s widely acknowledged that newly built shopping centres will bring significant benefits to our local economy. Calderwood Village will provide locals with hundreds of jobs. Not only the people of Calderwood, Tullimbar and Albion Park will benefit by this, but also the broader community and I thank Revelop for investing in us and what you have proposed here for us is something that will be good for us now and into the future”

Kellie Marsh, Deputy Mayor, Shellharbour City Council.

Revelop is committed to community and sustainability will be a key focus of the development, with an extensive solar panel array on the roof, contributing to energy efficiency and environmental conservation. The village centre will also provide more than 280 parking bays with shade sails, a car wash facility, and EV charging stations, ensuring convenience and accessibility for all visitors.

Completion is expected for Q1, 2025.
